Our Process for Choosing The Best AI Characters
When picking the best AI characters, we mainly use our detailed tests based on lots of data. But there’s more to it. We also consider 6 other important things to figure out which AI characters are the best.

Every AI character we review goes through a series of clear and data-focused tests to check how well it works. We examine 16 key points to figure out how good an AI character is in different areas.
Testing categories include:

#2 Expert Insights
At Best Characters AI, we prioritize firsthand insights from experts in the field or from actual users, now more than ever. Unlike other sites that review AI characters, we make sure to personally test each app. One of our in-house specialists will share their direct experience and views on the app.
Plus, we often engage with communities linked to these apps to gather user feedback and experiences.
#3 Brand Trust
We only recommend AI roleplay apps that we trust and that everyday users trust too. That’s why we only include AI characters from a few select platforms. Each platform is thoroughly reviewed, and by focusing on a small number of trusted brands, we can keep a close eye on new features, updates, and potential problems.
If a platform loses our trust—or never had it—we won’t recommend it, no matter how well it performs.
Trust can be lost for reasons like:
- Bad customer service
- Misleading advertising
Some platforms might also be too new to have earned our trust or the trust of their users yet.
#4 Periodic Updates

To stay on top of this fast-moving industry, we constantly review and update our recommendations.
Every six months, we revisit our recommended AI character lists to ensure each app still meets our standards. If an app no longer qualifies, we remove it from our recommendations.
We also review newly launched platforms and updated characters to see if they deserve a spot in our “best of” lists.

#5 Subjective Asessments
At Best Characters AI, our recommendations are carefully decided by our team. We focus on objective data and detailed analysis, but sometimes our decisions are also based on subjective judgment.
For example, an AI character might meet our scoring benchmarks but still not be recommended because of factors like small performance differences, company reputation, or trust issues.
On the flip side, if an AI bot barely misses our criteria but shows strong potential, we may choose to include it. These decisions depend on both the data and our team’s judgment to ensure we recommend the best options.
